 FAQs

This FAQ is based on common questions asked of electrology practitioners. The information below is not intended to provide a diagnosis or define a treatment. Please consult your electrologist before selecting a course of treatment.

  • Electrolysis is the only FDA approved form of permanent hair removal. A trained Licensed Electrologist inserts a thin probe which is the size of the hair into the natural opening of the hair follicle, then a current is sent to the cells that are responsible for hair growth destroying them; therefore, inhibiting growth. Lastly tweezers are used to remove the hair with no resistance . Electrolysis has been around since the 1800’s .

  • We like to say Electrolysis is color blind. Electrolysis is the the only form of permanent hair removal that can get rid of every hair . Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis doesn’t target dark pigment; it’s target is moisture in the hair follicle. Electrolysis can get rid of gray hair, white hair, red hair, blonde hair, black hair, brown hair, thin hair and thick hair and peach fuzz.

Electrolysis doesn’t target melanin unlike laser hair removal. Electrolysis targets moisture in the skin follicle.

  • Electrolysis is the only true permanent hair removal method and the only permanent treatment recognized by the FDA. Unlike other hair removal options, professionally performed electrolysis eliminates unwanted hair, permanently, with unsurpassed results.  Moreover, it does so for the largest variety of skin and hair types.

Laser promoters compare laser to electrolysis although laser assisted hair removal is considered a temporary method. It has not been evaluated for long-term safety of the patient’s skin and health.

Waxing, threading and tweezing are alike. However, ingrown hairs and discoloration may result. Additionally, they may cause an increase in hair growth activity. Depilatories and shaving can cause an irritation to the skin while the hair regrows quickly. These methods can require a lifetime of maintenance. Many can appear inexpensive but cost more due to long term use and are found to be inconvenient.

Electrolysis works on most areas of the body to give you smooth, sleek healthy looking skin.  No other solution claims such universal acceptability and success.

  • The number of treatments necessary varies with each client. Treatment sessions can range from 15 minutes to more than an hour depending on the area being treated.

It is important to follow the recommended treatment plan to achieve optimum results.

  • Yes, but it is very tolerable . Some people describe the pain as a heat sensation , pinch or a quick zap. Many people say that electrolysis hurts less than waxing and threading. Using certain topical creams or changing settings and using different probes can make the treatment more comfortable for the client . Being hydrated helps us to be able to release the hairs easier with a lower setting.

  • Electrolysis costs depend on a lot of factors including: how much hair needs to be removed, the size of area being treated, and where you get your services performed.

For best results, follow the electrologist's recommendations in scheduling appointments. For areas that have been waxed or tweezed, treatments will be more frequent than for areas that have been shaved.

  • Before your session, it's recommended to avoid sun exposure, waxing, plucking, or other hair removal methods that disturb the hair follicles. Cleanse the treatment area thoroughly and avoid applying any creams, lotions, or makeup.

  • Side effects are generally minimal. Temporary redness, swelling, and slight skin irritation may occur, but these typically subside within a few hours to a day. Following post-treatment care instructions provided by your electrologist will help minimize any potential side effects.
